Religious Affiliation in the 2006 and 2013 Censuses
The following shows the New Zealand census figures for Religious Affiliation for 2013 and 2006, with the percentage change between the two years. Only categories containing 10,000 or more people are included. "No Religion" remains the top category and shows a remarkable 26% increase. "Catholic nfd" has replaced "Anglican" as the most popular Christian denomination but both have suffered a decline with "Catholic nfd" down 3% and "Anglican" down 17%. "Baptist nfd" and "Buddhist nfd" have exchanged places with the former declining by 5% and the later growing by 12%. "Salvation Army" has dropped off the table having declined from 11,490 in 2006 to 9,162 in 2013, a drop of 20%. We do notice that there has been a 16% rise in the "Christian nfd", a result that may indicate that some who formerly were identifying themselves in a denomination have decided not to do so in the later census. This may significantly affect the results for all but the larger Christian denominations.
